Staying healthy is most likely a priority for you in the coming year, and many of our insurance carriers offer programs to help with your New Year’s resolutions and beyond. These programs encourage you to make positive lifestyle changes, and most are at no additional cost.

Proven to improve a person’s health and lower costs, most insurance wellness programs and services offer diverse solutions that support an individual’s overall well-being.

 

2023 Wellness Checklist

  • Schedule your annual physical
  • Schedule your breast/cervical/colorectal cancer screenings
  • Schedule hearing and vision appointments

  • Keep your vaccines up to date (i.e., flu, shingles, pneumonia)
    Most vaccines are covered by insurance at no cost to you at a local pharmacy. Remember to go online or call the pharmacy in advance to make sure they have the vaccine available. You will need to present your insurance card at your appointment.
  • Purchase a fitness tracker
    These wristband trackers can range in price from $20 to $200, depending on what you want them to track. Most mid-priced trackers record your steps, heart rate, and sleep. They can signal you to get up and move every hour.
  • Join a fitness club Most insurance carriers offer membership discounts to local and national clubs.
  • Take your vitamins and supplements.
  • Consider hiring a health coach.

    This is a one-on-one telephonic service to help you with lifestyle behavior modifications to prevent future diagnoses of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease. Your health coach will help you identify at-risk behaviors and provide suggestions to improve your health and wellness. Some insurance plans will cover it.
  • Eat healthier
    Commit to eating more vegetables, fruit, and whole grains.
  • Get more sleep
    The CDC recommends every adult should get 7 hours of sleep a night.
  • Lose weight and keep it off
    Different insurance carriers offer discounts on weight loss programs. Losing 10% to 30% of your current weight can reduce your risk of severe chronic conditions, which may help lower your medical costs.
  • Quit smoking
    All insurance carriers offer tobacco cessation programs, from online to one-on-one counseling.

 

  • See if your company has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and what it provides.

    An EAP plans addresses total employee wellness. Most sessions have been increased to twenty-five sessions, all with no charge to the employees, including:
  • Yoga Classes
  • Meditation
  • Online therapy sessions and
  • Substance abuse help
